Very good! Even the sides were good! Service was good. The ambiance was a little bit rustic, but the food and service was exceptional.
The whole catfish was perfect. They started the meal with greens, coleslaw and hush puppies. My main entrée was whole catfish and baked potato. I was very impressed. I can't wait to return.
We haven't ventured out to Crystal Springs in years other than one other time when we had to pick up some foster puppies, so it was a very brief stop in CS, it's also over an hour away for us. We were craving some fried catfish and wanted to go somewhere that we haven't been so Shivers it is! Since they're only open 4 days a week, it is always packed so we recommend reserving a table. When we got there at 715pm, although it was very busy, we were quickly seated. As we sat down, our server Tess brought over greens, hush puppies, and coleslaw, this comes with every meal. We both ordered the AYCE (All you can eat) catfish mix. Greens were nicely seasoned, I love that the slaw was slightly sweet with sweet minced pickles in it, SO GOOD! I also like my hush puppies kinda sweet too, these were also very delicious and piping hot. The catfish mixed came out with one whole catfish and several strips which we much rather would prefer. Whole catfish once sits for a min can get soggy, so we like to only order one at a time, this was perfect! Fish was nicely seasoned, fried hard, flaky, and absolutely delish! I was doing my food dance haha. Everything was great! I loved the slaw and hush puppies so much that I ate my weight in that and was only able to do one plate of catfish, so I'll probably just get a catfish platter next time. Tess was amazing and very attentive! 5/5! Included a menu tor yall.
This is like my fourth time coming here and I'm never disappointed. From great service to amazing whole catfish, you can't help but enjoy yourself while here. I am not a fan of turnip greens but the ones served at Shivers are some of the tastiest, well seasoned greens I've had. You have to be careful though. If you fill up on the delicious coleslaw, hushpuppies and greens served prior to your main dish coming out, you'll be too stuffed to enjoy the fresh out the grease fish!
